The House of Horrors discovered several days ago in the famous Spanish resort of Estepona on the Costa del Sol reportedly contained a “torture room” that shocked investigators, according to Spanish media. The walls and floors, they say, were covered with plastic sheeting, most likely to prevent victims’ blood from splattering around the room.
In the middle of the room, as seen in footage and photographs, there was a chair to which the abducted men were tied and tortured.
The villa was surrounded by high walls and a gate, and is believed to have been rented.
As a reminder, Spanish police arrested seven Serbian citizens on suspicion of luring, kidnapping, torturing and attempting to kill two men.
“The torture room was covered with plastic sheeting so that blood, from which investigators could identify the victims’ DNA, would not remain on the premises. Namely, if the plastic sheets covered in blood were destroyed, police who might eventually enter the house would not be able to use luminol to detect traces,” Spanish media sources explained.
Police were alerted by the partner of one of the abducted men, who called and said that her boyfriend had gone to the house and told her to notify the authorities if he did not contact her within 20 minutes. However, when there had been no sign of him after 40 minutes, she called investigators, who immediately went to the villa in the famous resort.
When they rang the doorbell and nobody opened the door, they climbed over the wall, and a man ran out of the house, apparently having managed to escape his kidnappers. He shouted, “We have been kidnapped, they want to kill us.”
“The police officers immediately called for reinforcements and stormed the house, where they found another naked and bloodied man who was tied to a chair. They also found duct tape, zip ties, torture pliers, as well as rifles and pistols,” they reported.
Spanish media reveal that forensic investigators collected evidence from the house because there are suspicions that more people may have been tortured there. Authorities are also searching for members of a criminal clan, as it is believed that the seven arrested Serbian citizens had additional accomplices in Spain.
The initial results of the investigation indicate that the men were kidnapped and tortured because of a dispute over drug-related business, namely cocaine trafficking.
“Both men whom police managed to rescue have criminal records, as do some of those arrested. The possibility that the victims and kidnappers were involved in a joint drug operation that went wrong has not been ruled out,” they reported.
The weapons seized in the house were sent for forensic examination to determine whether they had been used in any killing.
Spanish media also reported that National Police officers were stunned by the scene inside the house and that it reminded them more of a scene from the film “Pulp Fiction” than a house on the seafront at a luxury tourist destination.
“Given that the room was completely covered with plastic sheeting and that the victims were naked and covered in blood, everything indicates that the kidnappers intended to torture them to death. They most likely planned to burn and collect the plastic after disposing of the bodies, meaning investigators would never have discovered biological traces belonging to the kidnappers or victims,” they concluded.
Those arrested have been remanded in custody on suspicion of being members of an organized criminal group, as well as kidnapping, torture and attempted murder.
