Crvena zvezda and Saša Obradović will not finish the current season together! The red-and-whites have terminated their cooperation with the coach who was serving his second mandate on the bench, and the parting comes ahead of the KLS Final Four, which will be played in Niš next weekend. The reason for the termination of cooperation is a series of poor results that began back in the finish of the EuroLeague regular season.
At that time, Crvena zvezda ruined its position before the start of the playoffs with a series of defeats, entering the postseason from the tenth position. There, it had no chance to reach the quarterfinals as it was defeated by Barcelona, and then the team showed a crisis against Serbian clubs as well. Crvena zvezda struggled against Zlatibor in the KLS quarterfinals, and then Partizan “swept” their biggest rival in the ABA League semifinals.
Following the second defeat of Crvena zvezda by Partizan in the semifinal series of the regional competition, Saša Obradović held a short and very turbulent press conference. He accused the journalists, refused to answer questions, and left – as it would turn out, both from the conference and from the club whose jersey he once wore.
The cooperation between Saša Obradović and Crvena zvezda did not last even a full season, as he succeeded the Greek expert Ioannis Sfairopoulos at the beginning of the competitive year. The beginning was idyllic, but the “honeymoon” quickly ended, so Crvena zvezda failed to back up with results the euphoria that had “taken root” among the fan base.
