Journalist of the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) Michael Martens asked Zelensky in Belgrade on Saturday “can you tell us Europeans what specifically we can do to help you kill more Russians and more Russian soldiers”.
This construction of the question by Martens triggered an avalanche of reactions.

“FAZ supports Ukraine’s right to self-defense, guaranteed by international law, and calls for Russia’s war of aggression to end as soon as possible,” they concluded.
Martens himself published this FAZ reaction on network X and wrote:
“Ask yourselves what the right to self-defense means today in the case of Ukraine. You will come to several additional questions. One of them touches the very essence of the one asked at the press conference in Belgrade.”
