A female student of the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad was attacked in the elevator of her building, and the attacker has not been found even after four days, although the building has video surveillance, students in blockade announced last night.
Students from multiple faculties in blockade stated that the female student was attacked by a man for whom she had previously opened the entrance door of her building.
They entered the elevator together, when the man, from behind, started choking her. It is stated that the girl almost lost consciousness, but continued to defend herself.
The elevator went up six floors, and the attack lasted the entire time. When he stopped choking her, the attacker snatched her phone and fled.
Students in blockade state that the phone was located via an app and that the location was forwarded to the police.
However, as they state, the police did not enter that house, with the explanation that they “cannot enter a random house at night”.
Four days later, the attacker has still not been found.
It is stated that the building has video surveillance, but that reviewing the footage is being postponed and that the building manager is unavailable.
Students state that an inspector told the female student that it “was not an ordinary robbery,” and that the attacker wanted “to kill or rape” the girl.
Because of this, students ask why, if that is the case, the case is being handled as a robbery.
“We will not remain silent while women are choked in elevators, and institutions look for excuses. We will not accept a state where victims are left alone, and abusers walk the streets freely. For justice or irresponsibility? For victims or criminals? For Serbia or the mafia?” students asked.
