Serbian athletics has a new name that it will have to count on seriously in the future. Nineteen-year-old Luka Bošković shone at the Serbian Cup in Kraljevo, where he won the gold medal in the long jump with an impressive result of 8.14 meters.
For the young athlete, this is the best result of his career, but also an achievement that ranked him among the biggest names in domestic athletics. Bošković is now the third best Serbian long jumper of all time, and ahead of him are only Nenad Stekić and Lazar Anić.
How significant his success is is also shown by the fact that in the last 47 years only one Serbian athlete managed to jump over the limit of 8.05 meters. Lazar Anić succeeded in doing that in 2017, when he jumped 8.15 meters. Bošković has now come within just one centimeter of that result.
His coach Dragutin Topić did not hide his pride after the great success!
“Incredible Luka Bošković, 8.14 meters! Third of all time in Serbia, well done son,” Topić said.
The absolute record of Serbia in this discipline is still held by the legendary Nenad Stekić, who back in 1975 jumped as much as 8.45 meters, a result that is still considered one of the greatest achievements of Serbian athletics.
Special weight is given to Bošković’s success by the fact that he trains with Dragutin Topić, one of the best Serbian athletes of all time and the man who participated in the development of the European vice-champion Angelina Topić.
The jump of 8.14 meters showed that Serbia has another extremely talented athlete, and many believe that this is just the beginning of a career during which Luka Bošković could push the boundaries on the international stage as well.
