Serbian 3×3 basketball players failed to qualify for the final of the 3×3 Basketball World Cup, as they were defeated by Latvia with a score of 20:19 after overtime in a dramatic semifinal.
The “Eagles” had control over most of the match and at one point led 8:4, but the Latvians managed to get back into the game and bring the match into complete uncertainty. Until the very end, it was played basket for basket, and the decision was made in the final seconds.
A real drama was seen in the regular part. Serbia had the opportunity to resolve the match in the finish, but Milutinović’s miss for a two-pointer took the duel into overtime, where the game is played until two points are scored.
In the additional period, Stojačić scored first and brought Serbia a 19:18 lead, but Latvia fought back through Lasmanis, who hit the decisive two-pointer over a hand for the final 20:19 and a great celebration for his team.
Serbia will now play the match for third place against the loser of the duel between Germany and France, while Latvia will have the opportunity to fight for world gold in the final.
A bitter taste remains for the “Eagles”, who were within reach of another final, but they will try to finish the tournament by winning the bronze.
