Belgrade tabloids published an alleged Sky correspondence involving former President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro Vesna Medenica as evidence that Ilija Srdanović, first on the list Students Win, is “a trusted man” of Milo Đukanović. However, the disputed messages are dated a year after Sky ECC was shut down, while additional questions are raised by information about whom Medenica actually intended to seek medical treatment from in Serbia.
The alleged correspondence first appeared on social media and was subsequently republished by most Belgrade media outlets.
Presenting it as authentic correspondence that had been leaked to the public, the tabloids claim that the messages prove that Ilija Srdanović is Đukanović’s man, and even that the correspondence itself is evidence of an organized “hybrid war” and an attempt to influence the upcoming parliamentary elections in Serbia.
What do the alleged Sky messages say?
In the published messages, Vesna Medenica allegedly exchanges messages with a female colleague. In one of the messages, sent on March 22, 2022, Medenica says that she does not feel well and that she will come to Serbia “soon because there is some doctor there who treats Milo, Srdanović, one of ours whom we trust.”
The surname Srdanović appears in another message that Medenica sent to the same person on March 24, 2022, in which she says that she has bought a ticket to Belgrade to see “that Srdanović, Milo’s man.”

It is precisely the dates on which the messages were sent that are disputed. As the Montenegrin portal Raskrinkavanje reports, at that time — from March 21, when the correspondence supposedly began, until March 24, when it supposedly ended — Sky had already been out of operation for quite some time.
More precisely, it had been out of operation for a full year.
Namely, the major international operation against Sky ECC began on March 9, 2021, when Belgian authorities conducted more than 200 searches.
Europol announced the following day that the authorities of Belgium, France and the Netherlands had managed to break the encryption of Sky ECC and had been monitoring the communications of around 70,000 users since mid-February. According to Europol, the aim of the operation was to block the further use of this encrypted communication system among major organized crime groups.
Nevertheless, March 9 was not the date when Sky was definitively shut down. Sky Global claimed at the time that its platform had not been compromised and attempted to continue providing the service. The final blow came about ten days later, after BlackBerry cut the company’s access to the infrastructure necessary to manage the devices.
On March 19, 2021, Sky Global sent users a notification that the service would be shut down, effectively bringing Sky to an end as a functioning communications network.
What did Medenica tell prosecutors about her trip to Serbia?
Another detail raises questions about the claim that Vesna Medenica intended to travel to Serbia specifically to see Ilija Srdanović.
Medenica was arrested on April 17, 2022, at Podgorica Airport, shortly before a trip to Belgrade. Before the special prosecutor, she explained why she was traveling to Serbia.
According to prosecution documents reviewed by “Vijesti,” Medenica said that she had experienced severe pain that day and had already been planning to travel to Serbia for treatment because she was “very resigned and disappointed with Montenegro’s healthcare system.”
However, in that statement she did not say that she was going to see Srdanović.
According to the published portion of her statement, Medenica said that she had personal acquaintances among certain specialist doctors employed at the Dedinje Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases and that she had arranged by phone to go to that clinic.
“To carry out the treatment plan, she called her godfather, whose wife booked two tickets to Belgrade for her and him,” the statement published by “Vijesti” says.
Srdanović does not work at Dedinje — Milovan Bojić does
Ilija Srdanović is not a doctor at the Dedinje Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases in Belgrade.
According to his official biography, he is employed at the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases of Vojvodina in Sremska Kamenica, at the Cardiology Clinic.
What may be an interesting detail, given that Medenica mentioned having personal acquaintances among doctors at the Dedinje clinic, is that the former president of the Supreme Court attended the opening of the “Dedinje 2” Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases, whose director is Milovan Bojić, her fellow native of Kolašin.
Medenica and Bojić belong to the same Kolašin regional and generational circle. Bojić is only two years older than her.
Her presence is also documented by footage from the opening ceremony, at which Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić also spoke. The ceremony was held on March 11, 2022, approximately one month before her arrest in Montenegro in April 2022.
This is not the only publicly available evidence pointing to a connection between Medenica and Bojić.
Three years later, on June 18, 2025, Medenica attended the promotion of Bojić’s autobiography, “It Was Not in Vain,” held in the crypt of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica.
In a photograph published on the Instagram profile of the Cathedral, Medenica can be seen sitting in the row behind Milan Knežević, leader of the DNP.
The event was also covered by the Montenegrin portal 24kroz7 in an article titled “Knežević and Medenica Together at the Promotion of Milovan Bojić’s Book at the Cathedral.”
