The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected a plan proposed by Arab leaders for the reconstruction of Gaza, stating that the U.S. president remains committed to his own vision.
“The current proposal does not take into account the reality that Gaza is currently uninhabitable and that its residents cannot live humanely in a territory covered in rubble and unexploded ordnance,” said U.S. National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes in a statement, as reported by CNN.
Arab leaders have agreed on the so-called Egyptian plan for Gaza’s reconstruction, which is estimated to cost $53 billion and would take five years to complete.
The plan consists of three phases: emergency measures, reconstruction, and governance.
In addition to the U.S., Israel has also rejected the Egyptian plan.
