After the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran is signed, U.S. diplomatic efforts will be focused on the war in Ukraine, U.S. President Donald Trump said.

“Yesterday we had a very good conversation with President (of Ukraine, Volodymyr) Zelensky and President (of Russia, Vladimir) Putin, and I see that maybe we can do something, I really do. I think they are both open to it. You know, now that this (Iran) is finished, we will focus on Ukraine,” Trump said during a conference ahead of the G7 summit in Évian, France, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Euronews reported.

Zelensky had previously stated that he offered to meet with Putin on the sidelines of the G7 summit to discuss ending the four-year war, but that the Russian leader “was not ready to talk.”

“We sent a message that we were ready to meet with Putin during the G7, because U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron will also be present, meaning Europe plus America. It is a good, I would even say a very good opportunity for all of us to meet together,” Zelensky said in a conversation with reporters.

Zelensky stated on Sunday that during a phone call with Trump, they agreed to continue discussions on peace initiatives for Ukraine during the G7 summit.

He said that during the conversation he wished Trump “success, above all in his efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.”
