Lebanese Hezbollah announced today that it has selected its “number two,” Naim Kasem, to be the new leader of the organization.
Naim Kasem will head this pro-Iranian group following Hasan Nasrallah’s death, which occurred on September 27 during an Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
“The Shura Council,” the governing body of Hezbollah, “agreed to choose Sheikh Naim Kasem as the General Secretary of Hezbollah,” stated the Shiite Islamist organization that is at war with Israel.

Who is Naim Kasem?
He was born into a Shiite family in Kfar Fili in 1953. He studied theology, with Ayatollah Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah as his teacher. He graduated in chemistry from the Lebanese University.
Kasem was one of the founders of the Lebanese Muslim Student Union, established in the 1970s, according to Danas.
He joined the Amal movement when it was led by Musa al-Sadr. Kasem headed Islamic religious education from 1974 to 1988. He participated in the founding activities of Hezbollah and became the deputy general secretary of the group in 1991.
Kasem reportedly lives in Tehran after leaving Beirut on October 5, 2024, on a plane used by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during a state visit to Lebanon and Syria.
In 2006, Kasem published the book “Hezbollah: An Inside Story.” He is married and has six children.
