The pre-election campaign for the local elections in Kosovo began at midnight and will end a minute before the opening of polling stations on October 12.
Out of 93 political entities, 12 Serbian political parties and civil initiatives are participating in the elections, including Srpska lista, which held a pre-election convention today in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica.
Srpska lista stated that only unity, with the support of the state of Serbia, guarantees the survival of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.
The candidate for mayor of the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica, Milan Radojević, stated that SL wants to use the local elections organized by Priština on October 12 to return Kosovska Mitrovica back to its citizens so they can lead the city and independently decide on their destiny. He added that people unknown to Serbs have begun to decide on their destiny and how they will live.
“They decide on how we will live, they decide on where we will move. What have we gotten in these three years? That children are not allowed to walk freely in the streets of the city, that they are not allowed to wear t-shirts of the fan clubs they love, that they are not allowed to celebrate graduation, for fear that someone will grab them by the neck. Those unknown people have simply started competing to see who will cause us more harm,” he said.
He reminded that the Priština authorities are attacking Serbian children and baselessly arresting Serbs and keeping them in prisons.
“They have expelled many brave, honorable people in an attempt to break the spine of Mitrovica. As we know, they also know very well that Mitrovica is a gathering center for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. It is the administrative, educational, and health center. If they break Kosovska Mitrovica, they have broken the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija,” Radojević emphasized.
He said that today Serbs are showing that they have not and will not succeed in that intention and stressed that he expected a more decisive reaction from the international community to everything that is happening to the Serbian people in KiM.
“We believed and hoped that they would understand the suffering of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. Unfortunately, during this time, and you are witnesses, besides dry statements and reassurances, we have received nothing else,” Radojević pointed out.
The president of Srpska lista, Zlatan Elek, thanked everyone who came to support the rally of the strongest and best Serbian party in Kosovo and Metohija, adding that they have awaited the day when they will use their votes to replace the current mayor. He pointed out that SL deliberately decided to start the campaign from Kosovska Mitrovica, which is a “bastion of Serbdom and freedom” and on which, as he said, the eyes of every Serb from Kosovo and Metohija are focused.
“Today we are gathered in our North Mitrovica to show that we are not defeated, to show that we are in our city, to show that freedom is defended in this city, that our name, our surname has been defended here for centuries, that we are united and cohesive here and that we are stronger than we have ever been,” Elek said.
He added that Serbs are obligated on October 12, by voting for Srpska lista and circling the number 170, to replace the illegally elected mayor and to bring in a new mayor and municipal council members, who are honest and honorable people. He once again called for unity, since only in that way can Serbs “liberate North Mitrovica from the false, illegitimate, and illegal Kurti’s mayors.”
“That’s why I invite you on October 12 to all move forward, be one people, one voice, and one victory. On October 12, call all your neighbors and friends, to say today that the countdown has begun and that we are starting the liberation of our city. United we can win, united we can have a better future, united we can save our city,” Elek said.
Support for Srpska lista in the upcoming elections was also provided by the celebrated Serbian basketball player Željko Rebrača, who emphasized that it is an honor for him to be with the Serbian people again, to continue the game they started on February 9 in the parliamentary elections.
“I know that Srpska lista is the only list that stands for this people, and behind this people. And we must be united together, because if we are united, no one can defeat us. I know that the people here have a lot of experience, they know how to run the municipality, they have the support of the people, they have the support of the Republic of Serbia and President Vučić,” Rebrača said.
A large number of citizens who gathered in front of the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Kosovska Mitrovica attended the Srpska lista pre-election convention.
At the convention, whose stage design was in the colors of the Serbian flag, chants of “Serbia, Serbia” were heard.
