Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on the phone with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev, the Kremlin press service announced.

Putin and Aliyev discussed in detail the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane near Aktau in Kazakhstan.

According to Russian media, the following details were particularly highlighted:

Putin apologized to Aliyev for the fact that the plane crash occurred in the sky over Russia. He once again expressed his deep and sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

During the conversation, it was emphasized that the AZAL plane, which was flying on schedule, had tried several times to land at the Grozny airport. At the same time, Putin claims that the capital of Chechnya, as well as Mozdok and Vladikavkaz, were attacked by Ukrainian combat drones, and air defense systems repelled them.

According to Russian media, the Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case under the article “Violation of traffic safety rules and air transport management”.

Basic investigative actions are being carried out, and examinations of civilian and military experts are underway.

Currently, two officials from the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan are in Grozny, where they are working together with representatives of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office and the Investigative Committee.

Relevant services of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan are working closely together at the crash site in the Aktau area, the Kremlin announced.
