After a shocking elimination in the second round of Indian Wells by Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp, Novak Djokovic openly spoke about the reasons behind his loss.
The greatest tennis player of all time and five-time Indian Wells champion, Novak Djokovic, was knocked out as early as the second round of the Masters tournament in the desert.
Van de Zandschulp pulled off a major upset, eliminating Djokovic in just over two hours with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
At the press conference immediately following the match, Novak shared his thoughts on the defeat.
“Things have definitely been different for me over the past few years. I struggle to play at the level I want. Here and there, I have a few good tournaments, but for the most part, it’s a big challenge. It’s a tough battle. That’s just how it is at the moment. Nothing can really prepare you for a moment like this. You have to experience it and try to handle it in the best way possible,” Novak said candidly.

When asked whether he had any physical issues or other difficulties, Djokovic responded:
“There’s always something going on, but I don’t want to talk about it. There are no excuses for my poor performance today. It seems it was just a bad day at work for me,” Novak stated.
Next up is the Miami Masters, and after consulting with his team, Novak will decide whether to head straight to Florida.
