At the “Jug” base and the “Borovac” training ground near Bujanovac, the first joint military exercise between Serbia and NATO has begun, in which about 600 members of the Serbian Armed Forces and the armed forces of Italy, Romania, and Turkey are engaged until May 23rd. The tactical exercise titled “NATO – Serbia” is organized by the Land Forces Command and the NATO Joint Force Command from Naples, the Ministry of Defense announced.
“During the two-week field activities, tactics, techniques, and procedures applied in peace support operations will be practiced, such as base security, checkpoint operations, crowd control, and urban combat,” the statement reads.
The head of the military exercise is the deputy commander of the Third Land Forces Brigade, Colonel Branislav Stevanovic, and it is attended by military planners and observers from Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Romania, the United States of America, Turkey, France, and Montenegro.
“The exercise is being implemented based on a conclusion by the Serbian Government and represents a continuation of mutually beneficial, concrete, and transparent cooperation between Serbia and NATO within the Partnership for Peace program, on an equal basis and while respecting our military neutrality. This cooperation serves to preserve peace and stability in the region, improve the operational capabilities of the armed forces, and strengthen trust and mutual understanding,” the Ministry of Defense announced.

It is added that participation in international exercises “improves the competence of commands and units of the Serbian Armed Forces for implementing a wide range of tasks, including engagement in peacekeeping operations, and simultaneously confirms Serbia’s commitment to cooperation with all partners and the preservation of peace and stability.”
