Today is dedicated to the miracle worker of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Saint Vasilije of Ostrog. His relics have been kept in the Ostrog Monastery in Montenegro, as a great holy site, for more than 300 years. It is a place of pilgrimage for believers of other religions as well.

Saint Vasilije of Ostrog was born in the village of Mrkonjići, in Popovo Polje, Herzegovina. He became a monk and began his ascetic life in the Trebinje Monastery of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God.

As the Bishop of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and Skenderija, he lived in the Tvrdoš Monastery. When the Turks destroyed it, Vasilije moved to the Ostrog Monastery, where he continued his ascetic life and where he passed away in 1671.
