Czech journalist and publicist Radim Panenka spoke out after local police launched an investigation against him over a post about the death of General Ratko Mladić.
Panenka has come under scrutiny from Czech authorities, who are investigating whether he committed the criminal offense of “denying genocide” simply because he wrote on social media that General Mladić had saved the Serbian people in Bosnia from extermination and that, as a soldier, he had honorably defended his country.
- After receiving information from my Serbian friends about the death of General Ratko Mladić, I wrote a short statement on my social media. It was just a few words in which I said goodbye to the general. I know his son Darko well, and he is my friend, while my great friend Rajko Doleček, who unfortunately has already passed away, was a longtime close friend of Ratko Mladić and his entire family. In addition, as a journalist, I have long dealt with the breakup of the former Yugoslavia, and several years ago I wrote a book about the Hague Tribunal and its very strange approach toward all Serbs. Therefore, it was only natural for me to write a few words for the Czech public about the general’s passing. Above all, I emphasized what is deliberately absent from Western media, but this was by no means some kind of “shocking” statement – Panenka told Kurir.
He added that “the shocking part was the reaction of certain activists and current Czech anti-government non-governmental organizations.”
- They began to publicly attack me and file criminal complaints with the police because, in their opinion, I was allegedly downplaying genocide. In addition, the Bosnian ambassador in Prague began raising an outcry and demanding, de facto, that I be punished. I am now awaiting questioning by the police, and I expect to be summoned soon. It will gradually become clear whether the police will dismiss the accusations or whether they will bring me before a court, where denial of genocide can carry a sentence of up to three years in prison – Panenka said.

R.I.P. pic.twitter.com/saecAu1jHn
He said he was very grateful to hundreds of Czech citizens who had publicly and privately expressed their support for him.
- And I greatly appreciate the support of my friends from the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska – Panenka said.
Panenka also said that he is currently writing a book about Kosovo and Metohija so that, as he puts it, Czechs can learn more about the truth about history, the war and Albanian terror.
