One person was killed in a shooting that took place early this morning in Brussels. Authorities suspect that the shooting is linked to conflicts between rival drug gangs, the local prosecutor’s office announced today.

“The shooting occurred this morning in Anderlecht. One person was killed in the incident. It is likely connected to rival drug gangs,” a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office stated, as reported by Reuters.

This marks the third shooting in Anderlecht in the past few days. On Wednesday, two men armed with Kalashnikov rifles opened fire at the exit of the Clemenceau metro station, then escaped through the metro tunnels, Telegraf reports.

Less than 24 hours later, on the night from Wednesday to Thursday, another shooting occurred at the same metro station, leaving one person seriously injured.

The Brussels prosecutor’s office has stated that it will investigate whether today’s shooting is connected to these previous incidents.
