The Provincial Government today, at the proposal of the Provincial Emergency Response Headquarters, allocated 270 million dinars for the implementation of urgent measures and works to ensure the functionality of the Danube–Tisa–Danube Hydrosystem. Due to the historically low water level of the Danube and the exceptionally unfavorable hydrological situation, it also declared a state of emergency in the territories of the City of Sombor and the municipalities of Kula and Vrbas.
At today’s emergency session of the Provincial Emergency Response Headquarters, chaired by the President of the Provincial Government, Maja Gojković, who also heads the Headquarters, the current hydrological situation was reviewed, along with measures to mitigate its consequences and ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the system in the coming period.
It was pointed out that today the Danube reached a historic low water level of minus 127 centimeters, posing a serious challenge to the functioning of the Danube–Tisa–Danube Hydrosystem, primarily affecting irrigation systems, agricultural production, and other users.
In this regard, the Provincial Emergency Response Headquarters proposed that the Provincial Government declare a state of emergency in order to implement measures to prevent and eliminate the consequences of the critical hydrological situation, which are particularly severe in the territories of Sombor, Kula, and Vrbas and threaten to spread further.
The allocated funds will be directed to the Public Water Management Company “Vode Vojvodine,” which has already undertaken all available measures in the previous period to mitigate the impact of the exceptionally low water level and will continue its activities in accordance with the current hydrological conditions.
The Provincial Emergency Response Headquarters will continue to monitor the situation across the territory of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and, in accordance with its authority, coordinate the activities of all competent institutions with the aim of mitigating the consequences of the current situation.
