Students from the Mathematical Grammar School in Belgrade achieved outstanding results at the International Tournament of Mathematical Modeling, held from October 23 to November 1, 2026, and organized by the Educational and Scientific Center of Moscow State University (MSU).
Competing against 25 teams from ten countries around the world, the four-member team from Belgrade’s Mathematical Grammar School won three significant awards, once again confirming the quality of education and the talent of young mathematicians from Serbia.
While the local teams competed in Moscow, representatives of the Mathematical Grammar School participated online. This was their eighth consecutive appearance at the international tournament.
First Prize for Stefan Sekulić Derdovski
The Mathematical Grammar School team consisted of Jelisaveta Srdić, Stefan Sekulić Derdovski, Mihajlo Janičić, and Konstantin Stoilković, and was led by Professor Ivana Jovanović, the team leader.
The competition consisted of two team and two individual segments, during which the students demonstrated exceptional knowledge, creativity, and the ability to solve complex mathematical problems.
The greatest individual achievement came from Stefan Sekulić Derdovski, who won first prize in the “PriMat” applied mathematics competition.
In addition to his achievement, the Mathematical Grammar School team also won third prize in the team optimization competition.
The entire team was also presented with a special award in the main mathematical modeling competition.
Three Awards Among 25 International Teams
The results are particularly significant considering the strong international competition and the fact that the students from Serbia participated remotely.
The Belgrade students managed to distinguish themselves in various fields of applied mathematics, from optimization to mathematical modeling, which requires combining theoretical knowledge with solving practical problems.
Representatives of the Mathematical Grammar School expressed their pride in their students’ achievements and the sense of unity they demonstrated throughout the competition.
Congratulations were extended to all team members, as well as to Professor Ivana Jovanović, who led them.
With these results, the students of the Mathematical Grammar School have once again proudly represented Serbia on the international scientific stage, confirming that young talents from our country can achieve remarkable results even in the strongest competition.
