Dušan Vlahović kept Juventus in the game all the time against Borussia Dortmund in the first-round Champions League spectacle that ended 4:4. After that, he had something to say. The Serbian forward scored two goals and assisted on another, but he highlighted what “the Old Lady” needs to work on to start getting wins.

“Experience will help. However, we have to play better, read the games better, and not concede so many goals, especially right after we score. It happens all the time. We won a few days ago, now we drew, but we can learn a lot, and it’s important that we didn’t lose.”

He became a super-sub, and there was speculation all summer that he would leave the club. He clarified whether he prefers being a reserve or a starter.

“It’s up to the coach to decide who plays. Every day I work hard in training, and I’m ready to do what is asked of me, I’m at the team’s disposal. For most of my career, I was a starter and I always scored goals. Today, with five substitutions, players who come off the bench are increasingly important. Of course, everyone loves to start a game, but I respect the coach’s decisions and I try to meet expectations when he calls on me.”

He decided to speak in a little more detail about everything he went through in the previous period.

“It wasn’t an easy period for me; there was talk every day, and for 99 percent of the things that were said, I can now say they have nothing to do with the truth. That can upset a person, but I found strength in it. Every day you have to prove yourself, to always be hungry. I’m never satisfied, so today I scored two goals and had an assist, but I wanted a third,” Vlahović said.

He then clarified how much it affected him emotionally as well.

“Expectations are always high, both from myself and from others, and that pushes me forward. I play for a fantastic team, one of the most important clubs in the world, and I can’t complain. I just have to dedicate myself to work, make myself available to the team, and keep going. Of course, there is criticism when a forward doesn’t score goals. I used to find it harder to deal with when I was younger, but I’m maturing and progressing, learning to handle it better, and I believe I can continue to improve. I have to train harder than everyone else and be ready when they call on me.”
