Dejan Milovanović, former Red Star footballer, passed away on Tuesday in Belgrade at the age of 42.
Milovanović was participating in a match between Zvezdara and PKB in the Veterans League when he suddenly fell ill.
The tragic news was also confirmed by the Veterans League, which sent a notice to the clubs:
“Dear club representatives, a few minutes ago, during the veterans’ match, Dejan Milovanović, player of FK Zvezdara, passed away. For this reason, the next (extraordinary) round, which was scheduled for September 18, will be postponed.”
Who was Dejan Milovanović?
Dejan Milovanović was born on January 21, 1984, in Belgrade and was the son of legendary Red Star player Đorđe Milovanović.
He played as a midfielder and was one of the players who marked a period in Red Star’s history. He began his career in Red Star’s youth teams and made his first-team debut in 2001.
Wearing the red-and-white jersey, he won three league titles and four Serbian Cups, served as captain, and played 230 matches. In August 2008, he transferred to Lens, and later played for Greek club Panionios and Belgrade’s Voždovac.
Milovanović also played for Serbia’s youth national teams, captained the U‑21 team, and appeared in several matches for Serbia’s senior national team.
