A few days after a brilliant performance in the Diamond League in Oslo, the fantastic Serbian athlete Adriana Vilagos has once again conquered the athletic world. Our javelin thrower triumphed at the gold continental series meet in Ostrava, where she defended the title won last year in grand style. She reached the gold medal and the winner’s podium with a throw of 62.92 meters.
Unlike some previous competitions, such as the one in Xiamen where she constantly achieved high results and threw over 63 meters, Adriana showed the traits of the greatest champions in Ostrava – she shined when the pressure was highest.
After a somewhat more restrained start, the Serbian heroine “exploded” in the fourth round. That was when she recorded one of her best results of the season, took the lead, and did not let it go until the very end.
This is what her performance looked like by rounds:
Round I: 58.41 m
Round II: 59.41 m
Round III: 59.73 m
Round IV: 62.92 m (Winning throw!)
Round V: 59.30 m
Round VI: 57.06 m
The battle for the top was incredibly tense. Second place went to the former Olympic champion Sara Kolak from Croatia, who was breathing down our athlete’s neck with a result of 62.61 meters. Interestingly, Kolak showed incredible consistency, as all her throws landed in the range between 62.37 and her best result, but that was still not enough for the inspired Adriana.
The bronze medal at the “Ostrava Golden Spike” meet went to the Australian Liana Davidson, who threw the javelin to 60.29 meters.
This victory is just the crown of the great form Adriana is in, considering that at the previous two prestigious competitions of the Diamond League – in Xiamen and Oslo – she took a high third place both times. The new medal from Ostrava clearly shows: Adriana Vilagos is ready for the greatest achievements!
