Ema Zecirovic, a young Serbian taekwondo athlete, has made Serbia proud by achieving notable success at a major competition.
At the World Junior Taekwondo Championships, held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) from April 12 to 17, 2026, 16-year-old Ema Zecirovic achieved an exceptional result by winning a silver medal in the category up to 68 kilograms.
Zecirovic reached the world runner-up title on the fourth day of competition, following a series of high-quality and notable fights in a tournament that gathers the world’s best juniors.
In the final, Maja Srhoj, an opponent from Croatia, was better than Ema, winning with a score of 2:0 and securing the gold.
Nevertheless, the result achieved by the Serbian competitor confirms the high level of competitiveness of Serbian taekwondo within international frameworks, as well as the continuity of development and work with younger selections.
After the final, Ema Zecirovic cried while giving a statement, and she also waved a banner with the Serbian flag.
Of course, these were tears of joy, as the defeat in the final is not greater than the pride and joy from the previous victories.
