Vučić stated that the state will limit trade margins, which will lead to a significant reduction in the prices of “almost every product.”

“It’s about almost 3,000 products and 23 product groups,” the President of Serbia pointed out.

He also announced that the high-speed railway from Novi Sad to Subotica will be open to traffic in 20 to 30 days.

“I believe that in 20 to 30 days, we will open the Belgrade – Novi Sad – Subotica railway for both passenger and freight traffic,” Vučić said.

Presenting the new package of economic measures, Vučić emphasized that the goal is to significantly improve the standard of living of citizens.

“Today is probably my most complicated task so far. I have been preparing for several days and working with all the people from the ministries and state administration so that we can present one part of the program, one part of what we are doing, and we will present the rest in mid-September, somewhere around the national holiday, a day or so earlier or a day or so later,” the president said at the “Serbia” Palace.

The presentation of the package of new economic measures is underway at the “Serbia” Palace. President Aleksandar Vučić is presenting proposals that, as announced, will come into force on September 1.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, began today at 11 AM at the “Serbia” Palace with the presentation of a package of new economic measures that will come into force on September 1.

As he pointed out, the measures will apply to all products, primarily food and household hygiene products, but also to loans that will be available at lower interest rates.

Yesterday, during a rally against blockades in Ub, Vučić stated that citizens will “feel the effects of the new measures in their wallets” and announced that a second level of economic measures is also planned, while “something else is being prepared” for mid-September.

“Someone said that these are partially social measures, but we are also doing real economic measures to help producers and suppliers,” the president said.

He emphasized that the state’s intention is not to interfere with small merchants, reminding that the four largest retail chains in Serbia – Maxi, Delhaize, Lidl, Mercator, and Univerexport – control 53 percent of the total turnover.

“The measures will apply to the 24 largest retail chains, over 70 percent of retail chains, and will have a limited margin. You cannot have a margin of 45 percent in Serbia and 25 percent in some countries and have that suit you,” Vučić said.

The President of Serbia emphasized that today is his “most complicated task so far” and that he has been working with people from the Ministry to present one part of the program.

According to him, the second part of the program will be presented in mid-September.

The measures for “a better standard for citizens” relate to limiting trade margins, amendments to the Law on Enforcement and Security, low prices for firewood and electricity, as well as lower interest rates on loans, Vučić stated.
