The Serbian national football team gathers on Friday in Stara Pazova ahead of the upcoming friendly matches against Cape Verde and Mexico, and head coach Veljko Paunovic has already announced the list of players he is counting on for the June action.

The “Eagles” will appear in a significantly changed lineup this time, as most of the regular national team players will not be available to the coaching staff. Due to rest and an agreement with the head coach, all goalkeepers, as well as captain Nikola Milenkovic, Aleksandar Mitrović, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Sasa Lukic, Luka Jovic… have remained out of competition. Only Strahinja Pavlovic, Strahinja Erakovic, Andrija Zivkovic, Aleksandar Stankovic, and Veljko Birmancevic are there.

Paunovic emphasized even earlier that precisely these kinds of windows would be an opportunity for certain football players from the background to get a chance to impose themselves and fight for a more serious role in the national team before the continuation of competitive obligations, so a call-up was given to Filip Stankovic, the Venezia goalkeeper whom we will watch with his brother Aleksandar, as well as all the younger football players from the Superliga whom he has already invited to gatherings. A chance will also be given to Jovan Milosevic, Petar Stanic, Dejan Zukic, football players he spoke about in the previous period and who had not been called up.

The list of players includes:

GOALKEEPERS: Filip STANKOVIC (Venezia), Veljko ILIC (Widzew Lodz), Luka LIJESKIC (Radnicki 1923)

DEFENSE: Strahinja PAVLOVIC (Milan), Strahinja ERAKOVIC (Red Star), Ognjen MIMOVIC (Pafos), Kosta NEDELJKOVIC (Leipzig), Vukasin DJURDJEVIC (Partizan), Veljko MILOSAVLJEVIC (Bournemouth), Nikola SIMIC (Partizan), Mirko MILIKIC (Zeleznicar), Stefan BUKINAC (Young Boys), Adem AVDIC (Red Star)

MIDFIELD: Aleksandar STANKOVIC (Club Brugge), Njegos PETROVIC (Vojvodina), Vasilije KOSTOV (Red Star), Vanja DRAGOJEVIC (Partizan), Petar STANIC (Ludogorets), Vladimir LUCIC (Red Star), Dejan ZUKIC (Wolfsberger) Andrija ZIVKOVIC (PAOK), Andrija MAKSIMOVIC (Leipzig), Veljko BIRMANCEVIC (Getafe), Lazar RANDJELOVIC (Vojvodina)

FORWARDS: Jovan MILOSEVIC (Werder), Nikola STULIC (Lecce), Mihailo IVANOVIC (Millwall).

Thus, in a rather mixed lineup, Serbia will first visit Cape Verde on May 31 in Lisbon (16:30), while four days later, on June 5, they will measure forces with the selection of Mexico in Toluca (4:00). These will be the final tests for the “Eagles” before the start of the new edition of the Nations League, which begins in September.

Head coach Paunovic will also have a press conference for the media on Friday, June 29 at 13:00, and the selection will have its first training session on the same day at 11:00, the FSS announced.
