Sonja Ponjević (20), a student who was hit by a car last week during a protest honoring victims in Novi Sad, has been released from the Urgent Care Center in Belgrade, her father Ratko Ponjević confirmed to Nova.rs.
He emphasized that Sonja now faces a long recovery and will be attending regular check-ups.
“Sonja is much better, she was released from the hospital today. She will be coming for regular check-ups with the doctor. They assessed that she can go home, but under certain conditions. Now she faces recovery and a special regime and pace of life. I want to emphasize that the two greatest Serbs were with my Sonja. One played, and the other prayed. The first one played at the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic, while the other, Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, prayed for her. My heart is full, and my child survived,” said Ponjević.

He also emphasized that they are much calmer now that Sonja is better, and that the situation in recent days had been worrying.
“Now we’ve only calmed down a bit. I have to thank all the citizens who were with my Sonja in recent days. She had enormous support and love from all sides, which means a lot to all of us,” emphasized Sonja’s father.
As a reminder, on January 16, just before noon, the Emergency Medical Service received a call about a traffic accident in which a car hit 20-year-old student Sonja Ponjević.
