Uroš Medić was born on April 25, 1993, in Novi Sad. His journey has taken him from growing up in Budisava, through construction work in Alaska, to becoming a star in the world’s biggest MMA organization.
He began practicing judo at the age of four before switching to kickboxing at the “Novi Sad” club under head coach Srđan Nadrljanski.
“I really miss Budisava—I think about it every day. But I have goals that I’ve set for myself. I want to achieve them, and that’s what keeps me going. I talk to my mom, dad, and brother every single day,” Medić once said.
Moving to Alaska
In 2015, Medić moved to Anchorage, Alaska, through the “Work and Travel” program. In the harsh climate of the U.S. state, he worked physically demanding construction jobs while training intensely every day. As he later revealed, he also worked in restaurants and even spent time fishing.
He first attracted widespread attention in the summer of 2020 through Dana White’s “Contender Series,” earning himself a contract with the UFC.
His journey then took him to Los Angeles, where he still lives today. There, he trained alongside some of the biggest stars in the sport while performing in front of Hollywood celebrities.
“Donald, Get Me a Visa!”
At the end of February this year, Medić knocked out American fighter Geoff Neal at a UFC event in Houston.
However, it was his post-fight speech that captured public attention. He made a direct appeal to U.S. President Donald Trump.
“Belgrade, Serbia, UFC this summer, Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards, if he’s available. I’ll knock him out, and then everyone else after that. I only have one problem—I still can’t travel outside the United States, and I need help. Mr. President, if you see this, please, I have to be in Belgrade this summer for the UFC event,” Medić said at the time.
It did not take long before the situation changed.
“I’ve just finished speaking with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, thanks to Dana White, and now I can travel! Serbia, we’re coming!” Medić announced.
Tears After the Victory
Following his major victory and everything he accomplished in Belgrade, Uroš Medić delivered an emotional speech, reflecting on his journey.
“I want to cry, I just want to cry, man. I’ve missed home so much. Nine years—that’s far too long. I left as a student when I was 22 years old, and I had one dream. Look where I am now. I want to dedicate this to my Savior Jesus Christ, who has protected me and watched over me all these years.”
The Next Dream – The Championship Belt
Medić showed everyone why he is known as “Doctor Medić.” Now he wants to fight for what he believes he has earned—the UFC championship belt.
“We’re bringing the belt to Belgrade. There are guys I’d love to fight, like Carlos Prates, who is ranked ahead of me, because that would be a fight to remember. Leon Edwards is hiding. If he wants to come out of his hole, I’m ready to knock him out,” Medić said.
