It is believed that those born on Miholjdan are especially gifted and blessed, and that good fortune will follow them throughout their lives.

Miholjdan is a holiday dedicated to Saint Kyriakos the Anchorite, whom the people call Saint Miholj and who devoted his entire life to the Christian faith.

For centuries, Orthodox Christians, Catholics and Protestants across Europe have celebrated him on the same day.

Unlike on other holidays, people are expected to work on Miholjdan, in the sense that all preparations for winter should be completed.

It is believed that true autumn begins on Miholjdan, so all kinds of work in the fields, gardens and yards are permitted in preparation for winter. Those who have not yet prepared their winter preserves should make sure to do so around this holiday.

Saint Kyriakos is the patron saint of many Serbian households, and Miholjdan ranks 13th among Serbia’s family patron-saint celebrations in terms of the number of families that celebrate it.

It is believed that those born on Miholjdan are especially gifted and blessed, and that good fortune will follow them throughout their lives.

The only thing forbidden on Miholjdan is getting married. This belief is rooted in the idea that newlyweds would be unable to gather wedding guests because everyone would be busy working in the fields.
