Agents of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested a police officer in Hanover Park in a Chicago suburb on Thursday morning, accusing him of unlawfully residing in the US as an immigrant from Montenegro.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) states that the police officer, Radule Bojović, overstayed his tourist visa, which expired back in 2015.
According to a DHS statement, Bojović was “located during targeted immigration enforcement actions” as part of an ICE operation in the state of Illinois.
The Hanover Park Police Department announced on Facebook in August that Bojović had recently graduated from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy and begun “an intensive 15 weeks of field training and evaluation,” preparing to serve the local community.
CNN contacted the Hanover Park police for comment and also attempted to get in touch with Bojović himself.
“Radule Bojović has violated our country’s laws and has lived illegally in the United States for 10 years. What kind of police department gives criminal illegal immigrants badges and weapons? It is a criminal offense for foreigners even to possess a firearm. A police officer who is actively violating the law,” stated DHS Assistant Secretary, Trisha McLaughlin, to CNN on Thursday.
We remind you that in September, ICE agents also arrested the superintendent of the largest school district in Iowa, accusing him of being illegally in the country since the early 2000s. Charges for weapon possession were later filed against him.
