An event titled “The Princess’s Evening” was held in Chicago tonight, during which Princess Danica Karađorđević shared her views on life, raising children, family values, and preserving national and cultural identity with the audience.
The grand hall of Pella Signature restaurant was packed and filled with emotion, much of it sparked by the princess’s sincere and heartfelt storytelling. She openly shared personal experiences, joys, and hardships from her life in three major European cities before ultimately returning to Belgrade, where she now lives with her husband and two children. Their eldest son, Prince Stefan, is the first Karađorđević to be born in Serbia since 1928.
The program, hosted by Serbian Times Editor-in-Chief Antonije Kovačević, began with a brief biography of Princess Danica. The audience was reminded of her father, renowned painter Milan Cile Marinković, her years spent in Paris and London, her studies in applied arts, and finally her meeting with Prince Philip, their engagement, and marriage.
Princess Danica then personally addressed the guests, answering questions about preserving and losing identity in the diaspora, assimilation in distant countries, and the importance of language as the foundation of national identity, illustrating her points with examples from her own life.
The conversation later turned to the role of women in modern society. The princess spoke about emancipation, which has brought women long-deserved freedoms, but also noted that some of its manifestations have led to a reversal of traditional family roles. Combined with the weakening role of men and husbands, she said, this has contributed to a growing number of divorces and the erosion of the traditional family structure.

In the final segment of the panel, Princess Danica and her host, Serbian Times editor Antonije Kovačević, discussed a joint project between the media outlet and the Royal Foundation called “Serbian Camp.” Beginning next year, the initiative aims to bring together children and young people from the diaspora and the homeland in one place, with the goal of strengthening ties that will help preserve national identity and the unity of the Serbian people, nearly half of whom currently live outside Serbia.
At the end of the event, Hereditary Prince Philip joined them on stage. He first touched the audience with warm words describing his life partner before speaking about the Royal Foundation’s projects, ranging from agriculture and fundraising for the restoration of the Hilandar monastery estate to investments in the Serbian economy.
The evening concluded with the royal couple mingling with attendees. Lasting memories were captured in photographs of the Karađorđević family and members of the Serbian diaspora, many of whom expressed pride and happiness that the Serbian people are represented by two young, educated, and dignified individuals.
The organizer of “The Princess’s Evening,” Serbian Times, extends its gratitude to Power Printing for its sponsorship and to Pella Signature restaurant for its hospitality.
