Nikola Jokic has been given the role of Serbia’s captain, explained Dusan Alimpijevic, the head coach of the “Eagles”.

With the absence of Bogdan Bogdanovic, the captain’s spot was left vacant, and the leader of this generation got the opportunity to become the captain.

“It came about very simply, it was not questionable from the start, from day one the communication went in that direction, the man didn’t make any problems, nor was it questionable. A simple story. From the beginning of my coaching mandate, it was said that whenever he can due to club obligations, he will be with the national team. He is fulfilled by the national team, the Serbian national team makes him happy, previous head coaches confirmed that too, you can see even now how happy he is and there is no doubt that he should be the captain of the Serbian national team.”

He clarified how he reacted when he broke the news to him.

“I told him that I was less worried about how he would react. Anything else would be inexplicable, who, if not him? There is no need to explain further.”

As the captain, Nikola Jokic also gave his first statement after gathering and emphasized that it is an honor for him to lead the Eagles as captain, although he said it modestly, in his own style, that he is not sure if he deserved it, because there are older players who have been in the national team longer.

Jokic expressed a wish that the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is played on July 6 in Belgrade, be in front of full stands.
