Lawyers representing the arrested Serbs have confirmed that the Court in Pristina has ordered one-month detention for five men taken into custody on suspicion that, as members of the Serbian police, they allegedly participated in the operation in Račak on January 15, 1999.
Iljir Morina, a prosecutor with the Special Prosecutor’s Office in Pristina, confirmed yesterday that the police, in cooperation with the prosecution, had arrested five individuals and requested detention following their questioning.
The suspects were previously questioned by a pre-trial judge of the Basic Court in Pristina, who accepted the prosecution’s request and ordered their detention for a period of 30 days.
The arrest of the five Serbs was condemned by the Office for Kosovo and Metohija and the Serbian List, which described the move as a politically motivated proceeding and a continuation of pressure on the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija.
