SYDNEY, Australia – The death toll from floods in southeastern Australia has risen to four, after the body of a man was found in a car trapped in floodwaters. The accident occurred near Coffs Harbour, approximately 550 kilometers north of Sydney.
Three days of relentless rain have caused severe flooding, cutting off towns and destroying homes. More than 50,000 people have been isolated by the floodwaters.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese canceled a planned visit to Taree, one of the worst-hit towns, due to unsafe conditions.
“We tried to visit the town, but it was not possible due to the current circumstances. I believe people will understand,” Albanese said.
Climate change, according to experts, is increasingly impacting Australian weather patterns, and frequent floods, following years of droughts and fires, have become a “new reality for the country.”
In Sydney, the severe weather that brought heavy rainfall over the past few days has moved south. Meteorologists expect the storm to weaken by tonight.
The floods have caused traffic disruptions, including the cancellation of several train lines, while at Sydney Airport, two of the three runways were closed for an hour due to heavy rain and strong winds.
The Warragamba Dam, which supplies 80 percent of Sydney’s water, has reached almost full capacity, and there is a risk of it overflowing, officials warned.
