NEMANJA ĐURAN RELEASED FROM DETENTION: Former Deputy Head of the Criminal Police Administration to Defend Himself While Free!

Former high-ranking official of the Criminal Police Administration (UKP), Nemanja Đuran, who was arrested yesterday, has been released and will defend himself while at liberty, the Higher Court in Belgrade confirmed to Danas.

Following his release, Đuran was placed under a restraining measure prohibiting him from approaching or communicating with witnesses involved in the case, according to N1.

N1 contacted the Higher Court in Belgrade seeking confirmation of the information, but had not yet received an official response.

Đuran was arrested yesterday on the orders of the Special Anti-Corruption Department of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade as part of an ongoing investigation into multiple criminal offenses allegedly committed at the “Steak and Wine Bar” restaurant. The investigation stems from an incident on November 5, 2025, when a firearm was discharged inside the venue in the presence of numerous guests.

He is suspected of committing the criminal offense of abuse of office.

Investigators believe that, by using his official position, Đuran influenced other suspects to remove evidence and traces from the restaurant that could have indicated that suspect Saša Vuković had committed the criminal offenses of causing public danger and the illegal production, possession, carrying, and trafficking of weapons and explosive materials.

Danas reports that the former UKP official was dismissed from the Ministry of Internal Affairs on May 15 of this year. According to the dismissal decision, the reason given was that he failed to report to work for three consecutive days.

The dismissal came, according to the outlet, two days before he was questioned as a citizen by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade in connection with the murder in Senjak and the arrest of former Belgrade police chief Veselin Milić.

Đuran previously headed the Crime Suppression Service within the Criminal Police Administration.
