The Kreni-Promeni movement announced that the police seized two pistols from Aleksandar Šapić on the night he physically attacked councilor Tanja Mićić. The movement called on the prosecutor in charge, Mirko Despotović, to provide answers, including whether documentation concerning the seized weapons had been removed from the prosecution’s files.
The movement claims that Šapić had both pistols with him at the time of the incident in which Kreni-Promeni councilor Tanja Mićić sustained serious bodily injuries.
Kreni-Promeni has publicly posed several questions to prosecutor Mirko Despotović, who is handling the case.
“Has the receipt for the seized weapons been removed from the prosecution’s files, and who did it?” the movement asked.
They are also seeking an explanation as to why Šapić was not placed in police custody or remanded in custody, despite claims that he was armed and had inflicted serious bodily injuries on the councilor.
“Does Aleksandar Šapić have a permit to possess and carry the aforementioned weapons? Does he have any other weapons, and have they been seized?” the Kreni-Promeni statement reads.
The movement is demanding that the relevant institutions clarify the circumstances surrounding the seizure of the weapons, the status of the documentation in the case, and the reasons why measures involving deprivation of liberty were not applied to Šapić.
According to Tanja Mićić’s medical documentation, Mayor Aleksandar Šapić broke her left nasal bone during the attack, as well as the frontal process of the left maxilla, with displacement of the bone fragments.
An extraordinary session of the Belgrade City Assembly has been scheduled for tomorrow, October 13, at which the proposal to dismiss Aleksandar Šapić from his position as mayor will be discussed.
The request to hold the extraordinary session was submitted by the Kreni-Promeni councilor group, with the support of other opposition councilors. A total of 41 councilors signed the initiative to remove Šapić from office.
