Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kraljevo have arrested J. A. (26) from the city on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of causing a serious threat to public traffic safety.
According to suspicions, yesterday at around 7 p.m., on 4th Kraljevo Battalion Street in Kraljevo, while driving a Seat vehicle and overtaking, he collided with a Volkswagen passenger vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, driven by an 18-year-old fellow citizen. He then crossed onto a pedestrian and bicycle path, where he hit a tree and subsequently struck pedestrians.
A five-year-old girl suffered life-threatening serious bodily injuries, while her 32-year-old mother and one-year-old sister, who was in a stroller, also sustained serious bodily injuries.
The 35-year-old father suffered minor bodily injuries, as did a 33-year-old female passenger in the Seat.
Due to their injuries, the children were transferred to the University Children’s Hospital in Belgrade, where the five-year-old girl died.
A check established that the suspect does not have a driver’s license.
The suspect has been detained for up to 48 hours and will, together with a criminal complaint, be brought before the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kraljevo.
