The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sadannounced that D. K., director of the “Drina” Public Utility Company in Mali Zvornik, has been arrested on suspicion of abusing his official position during a public procurement procedure in 2025.

According to the statement issued by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office, the arrest was carried out on November 3, at the order of the Prosecutor’s Office’s Special Department for Combating Corruption.

The prosecution suspects that D. K. abused his official position to enable a public procurement procedure in which the bidder who would be selected had been agreed upon in advance, with the tender documentation tailored to that bidder.

Following the procurement procedure, the suspect signed a contract under which more than 13 million dinars were paid to the selected bidder, even though, according to suspicions, false documents had been submitted along with the bid as proof that the required conditions had been met.

D. K. is suspected of committing the criminal offense of abuse of official position under Article 359 of the Criminal Code.

With the approval of the Special Department for Combating Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad, he has been placed in custody for up to 48 hours, during which time he will be brought before and questioned by the prosecutor’s office.

The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad said it would continue proactively investigating and gathering evidence of the misuse of public funds. It also called on state authorities, particularly the police, to cooperate with the prosecution in uncovering corrupt activities and establishing accountability.
