Nikola Jokić is gaining momentum for the upcoming NBA season. In a pre-season game, he led Denver to a 102:94 triumph over the Clippers in Los Angeles. The Serbian center scored 12 points (6/9 for two, 0/2 for three) along with nine rebounds and six assists in 22 minutes.
The encounter was decided in the last two minutes, and the match winner was Curtis Jones who, with the Clippers leading 94:93, hit a three-pointer, then a two-pointer, while Holmes and Nnaji set the final score from the free-throw line. The Clippers, for whom the injured Bogdan Bogdanović did not play, failed to get the ball through the net for the last 120 seconds.
Jokić also had an assist in his style for Aaron Gordon, who was the most efficient player on the Nuggets team with 18 points and seven rebounds. The Serbian center and Jonas Valančiūnas cooperated well; the latter was close to a double-double performance in 18 minutes as he recorded 10 points and nine rebounds. For the Clippers, Kawhi Leonard was the leading scorer with 17 points, Brook Lopez added 15, and Derrick Jones 12.
Miami, without Nikola Jović, was defeated by Orlando 104:120, while the Los Angeles Lakers were better than Golden State 126:116. The “Lakers” were without Luka Dončić and LeBron James, and their rivals without Steph Curry.
