Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic stated to the Spanish media that he expects to be ready to compete at the upcoming Roland Garros Grand Slam, despite the injury that forced him to skip the Madrid Masters.
During the Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony, Djokovic confirmed that he would not play in the Spanish capital, but emphasized that his recovery is moving in the right direction.
“I am training so that I can be ready to play in Rome. I cannot make any predictions, it all depends on how the situation with my injury develops, but I will be ready for Roland Garros,” said Djokovic.
The Serbian tennis player also reflected on one of the most significant moments of his career – winning the Olympic gold at the Paris Games, where he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
“When I won in Paris, it was probably the peak of my career. Given that I was 37 years old and it was likely my last chance. I will never forget that victory. It was an incredible experience that I have rewatched many times, alone and with my family,” highlighted Djokovic.
Speaking about future plans, Djokovic did not hide that one of his goals is to compete at the next Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which would be the sixth of his career.
“Being at the Olympics, representing your country and wearing the colors of your flag with pride – no other event can provide such a feeling. I hope that I will have the opportunity to experience that again and I am working toward it,” concluded Djokovic.
