An unidentified driver attempted to break through the tribute of 16 minutes of silence at the Faculty of Law with a car and hit a 90-year-old pensioner.
As eyewitnesses told us, the driver and passenger of an “Opel Astra” car, license plates BG 1070 SV, arrived at 11:52 AM when the blockade of the intersection of Bulevar kralja Aleksandra and Beogradska Street began.
Students and citizens had already entered the intersection to pay their respects to those killed in the collapse of the Novi Sad station.
One student told Nedeljnik that they wanted to move, to let the car pass, but that two men got out of the car and began to insult and hit the students.
They allegedly slapped one boy.
When other gathered citizens came to the aid of those attacked, the driver and passenger got back into the car and reversed at high speed. On that occasion, they hit an elderly fellow citizen.
Then the attacker tried to flee the scene, but citizens rushed after them, stopping him at the corner of Bulevar kralja Aleksandra and Desanka Maksimović.
During the chase, the rear window of the car was shattered.
The driver sat in the vehicle with the passenger for about ten minutes, with the engine running, while the police refused to take him out.

A large number of citizens then demanded that the police arrest the driver, which they did after several refusals.
They took the driver to a police car and drove him only about ten meters further on Bulevar kralja Aleksandra near Tašmajdan Park.
Only at 1:00 PM, an hour after the event, did the police take the driver and passenger to the Palilula police station.
Gathered citizens are present at the scene in large numbers.
The emergency services arrived at the scene ten minutes after the event to provide assistance to the injured pensioner.
He was taken to the Emergency Center. The latest information indicates that he is in a conscious state.
The students in the blockade stated that, according to their knowledge, a report was not made.
