Manager of Serbian origin Milan Nedeljković, the former production director of the company BMW, took over the position of CEO of the German automotive giant from Oliver Zipse today at the annual general meeting of shareholders.
“With the ‘New Class’ (Neue Klasse), we are bringing a generation of vehicles to the roads that sets technological and emotional standards. Profitability and speed are key in this dynamic environment,” Nedeljković said upon taking office.
Oliver Zipse bid farewell to the company with emotional words, emphasizing that it was an honor for him to lead an “exceptional team that passionately shapes the mobility of the future for seven years,” according to the BMW company website.
This transition, which takes effect on May 14, marks the beginning of a new era for the Bavarian giant at a time when the industry is at a key turning point toward full digitalization and electric mobility.
Who is Milan Nedeljković?
According to the official biographical data of the “BMW” group and relevant sources, Milan Nedeljković was born on March 11, 1969, in Kruševac.
Very early on, already at the beginning of the seventies of the last century, his family moved to Germany, and Nedeljković grew up in the German city of Wuppertal, where he completed his primary and secondary education before going to study in Aachen.
Nedeljković holds the title of Doctor of Engineering Sciences (Dr.-Ing.), and he acquired his education at prestigious world faculties.
He studied mechanical engineering in Aachen, specialized at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and received his doctorate from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2024.
Joined BMW in 1993
He began his career in the BMW Group back in 1993 as an intern, and in 2019, he became a member of the Board of Management responsible for production.
Nedeljković is considered an expert with vast international experience, having managed factories in Oxford, Leipzig, and Munich, and his mandate at the head of the company is set until 2031.
He is married and the father of three children, and he holds dual citizenship – Serbian and German, as previously stated by the German “Manager Magazin.”
