The head of the Belgrade police is linked to more than just the Savamala case. Veselin Milić has also been linked to criminal clans, while those familiar with the situation describe as a scandal the decision to return him to work without any sanctions or proceedings after the Senjak murder and the time he spent in detention.

The path from head of the Belgrade police to detention is short, and the return to the position is even quicker. Veselin Milić spent just under two months behind bars in connection with the Senjak murder. On the very day his detention was lifted, he returned to work.

“Veselin Milić’s suspension from duty ended on July 6, 2026, and, under the latest final decision, he had been assigned on June 25, 2025, to the position of Assistant Director of Police for Improving and Organizing the Functioning of the Police Directorate within the Police Directorate,” the Ministry of the Interior stated in its response to the N1 portal.

Retired police colonel Slavica Radovanović interprets the Ministry of the Interior’s response as further confirmation that Milić returned to his position in the Police Directorate without any sanctions.

“According to some of the information I have from the Ministry of the Interior, no disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against Veselin Milić. Neither the current leadership nor, under the present arrangement of responsibilities and positions, the Director of Police or the Minister of the Interior have been instructed to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Veselin Milić,” said retired police colonel Slavica Radovanović.

We also asked the Ministry of the Interior whether disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against Veselin Milić, but its response stated that it had no information on the matter.

“This is a scandal in its own right. It tells us what state our police force is in. Veselin Milić returned to work on his own after being released from detention. He didn’t wait those three days that would have allowed disciplinary proceedings to be initiated against him for failing to show up for work. His superior, Police Director Dragan Vasiljević, did not see fit to initiate disciplinary proceedings against him either; instead, he played dead, as he has in every risky situation,” said Miloš Lazić, a journalist with the Nova.rs portal.

While he was in detention, the charges against the former head of the Belgrade police were reduced. The prosecution no longer accuses him of assisting the suspects in the murder at a restaurant in Senjak, but only of failing to report a criminal offense.

“In the end, it will turn out that the whole thing came to nothing and that nothing will happen. Veselin Milić has managed to slip through this whole affair. He is a man who knows a great deal, and no one dares touch him. God forbid he actually starts talking about everything he knows—feathers would be flying everywhere,” Lazić said.

Radovanović added:

“He held a position where, in Belgrade, a major center of events in our country, a great deal goes on. He possesses extensive knowledge. Time will tell in what direction he acted or whether he covered certain things up, but Veselin Milić is certainly associated with close ties to representatives of the current government.”

However, it seems that ties also exist with criminal clans. As KRIK revealed, Milić is mentioned in Sky messages belonging to criminal figure Miloš Pandrc, who is close to Darko Šarić. The messages reveal a conflict within the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in Novi Sad and a struggle for the favor of Andrej Vučić.
