Following reports by Bulgarian media that a married couple from Bor had both died from injuries sustained in a traffic accident in Bulgaria, Serbia’s public broadcaster RTS has learned that the man survived. After receiving emergency treatment at a hospital in Blagoevgrad, he was urgently transferred to Sofia for further medical care.
Bulgarian media had initially reported that the Serbian couple had both succumbed to their injuries following the serious traffic accident in the village of Cherniche near Simitli.
However, according to RTS, T. P. from Bor lost her life, while her husband, B. P., who was seriously injured, has woken up from a coma.
T. P., who worked as a schoolteacher, died from her injuries at the scene despite doctors’ efforts to save her. After receiving initial treatment at the hospital in Blagoevgrad, B. P. was urgently transferred to Sofia for further treatment, RTS’s correspondent reported.
Family friends confirmed that B. P. has regained consciousness but faces a long and demanding recovery.
The accident occurred on the stretch of road between Kresna and Simitli, in the direction of Sofia, when a passenger car with Bor license plates crossed into the opposite lane for reasons that have not yet been determined and collided with two freight trucks.
The married couple was returning from a vacation in Greece.
