Due to the full introduction of the EES system (Entry/Exit System), major crowds are expected at the borders of the European Union. At Batrovci, passenger vehicles are waiting about 45 minutes this morning, while there are no long delays at the entrance to the country.
At the Batrovci border crossing, five traffic lanes have been formed at the exit from the country, and the column of vehicles stretches all the way to Bajakovo. At the entrance to Serbia, there are currently no delays for passenger vehicles. Freight vehicles at the exit are waiting about two hours, reports RTS.
The full implementation of the EES system began today, and crowds were expected.
Ivan Kotarlić, an officer at the Batrovci Border Police Station, states that at all border crossings, upon the first entry into Schengen territory, registration or verification of travelers is performed. In the case of registration, it is necessary to scan the passport, take a photograph, as well as take fingerprints of the right hand.
During each subsequent crossing, verification is performed, which involves scanning the travel document and a biometric check – via fingerprint or facial photography. At Bajakovo, facial photography is currently being applied.
“Increased traffic intensity is expected during the day. Passengers are required to exit their vehicles and stand in front of the camera for identification, which can further extend the waiting time,” said Kotarlić.
Authorities appeal to citizens to check the validity of their travel documents before setting off on their journey, as well as to inform themselves about the situation at border crossings and the length of delays, which they can see on the installed cameras. Also, it is necessary to direct vehicles into the traffic lanes designated for the Entry/Exit System.
Alternative border crossings
At the Batrovci border crossing, at the exit from Serbia, there is a 45-minute wait (7:30 AM), reports an RTS reporter, while there is no crowd at the Gradina crossing.
More vehicles are expected during the day, so the recommendation is to choose smaller border crossings.
Alternative border crossings for Croatia are “Bačka Palanka,” “Bogojevo,” “Bezdan,” “Sot,” “Ljuba,” “Neštin,” while for Hungary, the crossings “Bački Breg,” “Bajmok,” “Horgoš 2,” “Đala,” and “Rastinac” can be used.
For Bulgaria, the alternatives are “Strezimirovci,” “Mokranje,” “Ribarci,” and “Vrška Čuka.”
The Border Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, in cooperation with the border authorities of Hungary, has coordinated the working hours of the border crossings Bački Vinogradi – Ásotthalom, Bajmok – Bácsalmás, and Rastina – Bácsszentgyörgy, so that, instead of 7 AM to 7 PM as before, they will be open longer in the coming days for passenger traffic.
