The courage of three young men from Vrnjačka Banja, who last year traveled to the Football World Cup in a Yugo 55 to raise money for the Neonatal Department, knows no bounds. These days, they are preparing to reach China in the legendary “Yugo”.
In a workshop in Stari Trstenik near Vrnjačka Banje, mechanics are checking every detail on the chassis and engine, preparing it for a 10,000-kilometer journey.
“In the first round, we raised 7 million dinars, and now we plan to raise 25 million, which we will donate to our little heroes,” says Marko Trmčić from Vrnjačka Banja.
Master Slaviša is confident that they will be able to prepare the Yugo for the journey. He is helping them wholeheartedly.
“It’s old, to be a little humorous, like my marriage, and if the marriage endured, so will it. It will have all our support, we will be with them all the time, there will be no problem and I am pleased that we have been given the honor to prepare this car,” emphasizes Slaviša Đurišić Đura, an auto mechanic from Stari Trstenik.
Predrag Žunjanin, an auto mechanic, adds that the vehicle must be prepared in detail. “Every malfunction, the smallest malfunction must be fixed. It must leave from here in perfect condition, so that we don’t have any problems on the road,” he emphasizes.
This undertaking is not only a test of the endurance of a car that has not been produced for a long time but also a test of human will and kindness.
Nemanja Đurišić says that, under ideal conditions, the journey will take 15 to 20 days. “From the start in Vrnjačka Banje to Beijing, there are about 11,000 kilometers on the route that we calculated. Now, the most difficult part probably awaits us after Moscow when we enter Siberia and towards Lake Baikal, where we will probably face the biggest challenge when we have to cross the frozen lake,” he emphasizes.
