Dijana Hrka, the mother of Stefan, who, along with 15 other people, died in the collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1, stated that on the anniversary of the tragedy, she will go to the place where her son died in Novi Sad. She announced that she will address reporters that day and announce her future steps, adding that nothing will be the same after that and that she believes the government might wake up.

In a conversation for N1, Dijana Hrka said that all families who lost someone in the canopy collapse deal with the pain differently, and that she found solace in the students.

“The students have truly kept me alive, and I thank them for that. And through them, I started to live, so to speak, in a way, to become more aware of everything, because I had fallen. Just like other parents, probably, who have fallen. I feel most sorry for Zorica Ruman. I feel very sorry for her. She is coping with it very hard, a woman who literally fell into bed because of grief,” she stated.

Referring to the time that has passed since the death of 16 people at the Novi Sad Railway Station, she said that the worst part for her is that there are no accused persons and no one is in prison.

“No one is guilty for the canopy. I truly want to know who killed our children, our loved ones. I don’t want any mother to wear this black scarf like me. I will not give up until justice is served, because then I will be a little calmer. I will never have that peace. I will never be the woman I was before this, but I will somehow be a little calmer. Someone will be there and will be held accountable for it. My goal is for such mistakes not to be repeated – for corruption not to kill people. Only the human factor is to blame here. And I really want this to be resolved, if not in Serbia, I will seek it outside of Serbia. I will not give up,” says Dijana Hrka, emphasizing that she only now has the strength to fight.

She said that on November 1, since the government, as she says, is not doing its job properly, she will address the authorities directly in front of the media.

“I will not involve the children and I will not involve the citizens. I will undertake something myself and I will announce to all journalists what it will be. And I think that after my speech, nothing will be the same. It won’t be able to be the same. Someone will have to do something after that. Someone will really have to do something after that. And I think, maybe the government will wake up now, in what way, we will see,” stated Dijana Hrka.

She pointed out that the steps she plans to take will be radical and that she does not want to involve the students and citizens, because they are demonstrating peacefully.

“No one is seeking any quarrel, any fight, any bloodshed there. I am leaving for Novi Sad early in the morning on November 1, and God forbid someone prevents me from reaching Novi Sad. I just hope they won’t be so crazy and rude (since they prevented it before) to stop me from going to that railway station. If they were to stop me, then I truly don’t know what I would do. I only hope they will let me go there peacefully. My child stayed there, I will never have that call again, I will never receive that message again, I will never hear my child again. And for someone to forbid me to go there that day. I think I would only then create chaos, because pain is stronger than anything, and I am very thirsty and longing for justice and truth. And I will truly strive to go there,” she stated.
