A mural dedicated to Novak Đoković, located in the center of Belgrade, was covered in black paint.

The work of the artist and activist Andrej Josifovski, known as Pijanista, was inspired by Novak’s famous “pumping” during this year’s Wimbledon.

The mural depicting Đoković in the moment of his characteristic gesticulation and energy boost, featured the inscription:

“PUMP, PUMP, why did you stop!?”

In the night between Monday and Tuesday, an unknown person poured black paint over the mural, and the author Andrej Josifovski spoke out about the incident on social media.

“Imagine that great ‘patriot’ in an orange jacket with a cap, sneaking around at night, then stopping in front of Novak (HEY NOVAK!) – looking him in the eye and splattering paint on his face and body. This is that fine ‘Serbian’ youth from the cage who wants to learn to draw graffiti. We conquered the top of the bottom a long time ago, but we continue into the stratosphere. Don’t worry, my brother @djokernole – retaliation follows, but without a mask, in the middle of the day, the way we do it,” Josifovski wrote along with a photo of the damaged mural.

In the second part of the post, the artist added:

“P.S. Do you also think the alpha daddy got scared?! ‘PUMP, PUMP, why did you stop?!'”

Josifovski thus once again emphasized his position and stated that the incident will not discourage artistic expression or the symbolism that the mural carries.

The mural was created as an homage to Novak’s energy and fighting spirit at Wimbledon, where he raised the atmosphere and motivated the audience with his famous “pumping iron” during the match. Đoković recently attracted great attention outside the sports fields, as he publicly supported the students who demanded that those responsible for the tragedy in Novi Sad, when 16 people died in the collapse of the canopy, be prosecuted.

Following that support, Đoković came under fire from a section of the public, and the family tournament “Serbia Open” had to be relocated from Belgrade to Athens.
