The Serb member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željka Cvijanović stated that the Republic of Srpska firmly believes the administration of Donald Trump will take decisive steps to protect democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina and support domestic institutions in addressing and reversing the harmful consequences resulting from the unlawful and illegitimate actions of the self-proclaimed High Representative.
‘German national Christian Schmidt, through his fraudulent self-appointment, unconstitutional actions, and undemocratic conduct has directly imperilled the very existence of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He bears sole responsibility for all detrimental developments in the country’, emphasized Cvijanović.
She underscored that Schmidt first usurped the legislative authority by unlawfully imposing amendments to the Criminal Code, and subsequently, in coordination with the ambassador of the previous U.S. administration in Bosnia and Herzegovina, pressured the judiciary into prosecuting and convicting the democratically elected President of the Republic of Srpska under those very amendments.
Cvijanović stressed that the President of the Republic of Srpska was convicted solely for carrying out his constitutionally mandated duty – by refusing to submit to the will of an unelected foreign national, Christian Schmidt.
She further highlighted that Schmidt acted in accordance with directives from the previous U.S. administration, identifying him as the principal instigator of political crises in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
‘With the very same objective, substantial funds were channelled through USAID to undermine the democratically elected President and the institutions of the Republic of Srpska. The Republic of Srpska remains steadfast in its commitment to defending the Constitution and upholding the right of democratically elected representatives to discharge the duties entrusted to them by the people through free and fair elections’, Cvijanović concluded.
