Employees at the Višegradska Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic (GAK) told “Vreme” that part of the ceiling collapsed in the building on October 10. A window fell onto a nurse, who was injured at the time. Babies had to be evacuated to various parts of the clinic, with newborns moved from the fourth floor to the first.
Sources of “Vreme” claim that employees were ordered to remain silent about the incident. Reconstruction is continuing while the clinic remains occupied.
“The new workers who were brought in determined that the waterproofing had been removed from the roof and that the whole thing would collapse with the first rain,” employees at Višegradska said, adding that doctors on duty are already reporting that they can hear beams creaking.
One of the recordings shows part of the ceiling that is at risk of collapsing.
Problems with the sewage system as well
Sources of “Vreme” add that another problem is that, since the beginning of this week, sewage in part of the building has been discharged through a hose and then out through a window.
All of these things are visible from the roof of the Emergency Center garage, while employees provided photographs to our newsroom.
They explain that the sewage problem is not a consequence of the ceiling collapse, but rather of the reconstruction of the building, which is well underway even though the clinic has remained operational throughout. Deliveries are taking place at GAK, while patients with high-risk pregnancies are still hospitalized there.
Reconstruction to be completed by July 2027
The reconstruction of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics (GAK) in Višegradska officially began on September 10, 2025, after the contract was signed on July 7, 2025. The deadline for completion of the entire project was estimated at two years.
According to official information, everything is proceeding according to plan and there have been no incidents so far. However, the interlocutors of “Vreme” say that Health Minister Zlatibor Lončar is directly exerting pressure to prevent information about the ceiling collapse and new risks from becoming public.
The media service of the University Clinical Center of Serbia, of which GAK Višegradska is a part, has not yet responded to “Vreme’s” request for comment on these developments.
The Nova.rs portal contacted Dr. Aleksandar Stefanović, director of GAK Višegradska, regarding these allegations.
In a telephone conversation, he claimed that none of the reported events had occurred and that nobody had been injured. He then asked that the questions be sent to him by email, which we did.
However, by the time this article was published, we had not received any answers.
Students also spoke out
Students in the blockade at the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade spoke out regarding the ceiling collapse at GAK Višegradska.
In several sentences, they described what politics means.
“Maybe you are ‘not interested in politics,’ but we assume you are interested in the fact that the ceiling collapsed at GAK Višegradska and that BABIES WERE EVACUATED, while one nurse was injured. Well, that is politics,” they said in a post.
