The German Bundestag has approved the extension of the participation of the German Armed Forces in the NATO-led KFOR mission in Kosovo and Metohija for another year.
As stated in a release published on the Bundestag’s website, the decision was adopted with 383 votes in favor, 192 against, and two abstentions.
According to the request of the German government, the tasks include ensuring public security and order, as well as supporting the development of a stable, democratic, multiethnic and peaceful Kosovo and Metohija.
Support will also be provided for the establishment of the so-called Kosovo Security Force as a “democratically controlled, multiethnic security organization and other actors within the framework of security sector reform,” the statement from the German parliament said, adding that “up to 400 soldiers may be deployed.”

The central concerns of the German government remain, as stated in the release, the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, as well as “political, rule-of-law and socio-economic stabilization, and support for EU accession and integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.”
The legal basis for the KFOR mission remains United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, according to the Bundestag. The German government has estimated the total costs related to the deployment of German forces within KFOR at approximately 35.7 million euros, the statement added.
